Developing a New Fire-Resistant Ridge Vent with O’Hagin

At American Eagle Roofing, we don’t just install roofs. We also help shape the future of roofing materials. Recently, our team had the unique opportunity to partner with O’Hagin, a leading manufacturer of ventilation systems for fire-resistant roofs, to test and install a brand-new metal ridge vent before it even hit the market. 

As a roofing company specializing in fire-hardening for homes across Northern California and Northern Nevada, we were proud to be the first company in our market to install this innovative new product, and we’re excited to share what makes it so special.

‍What Is a Ridge Vent? 

A ridge vent is a critical component of a roof ventilation system. Installed along the peak of the roof, ridge vents allow hot air and moisture to escape from the attic, helping regulate temperature and prevent mold, mildew, and premature shingle failure.

For homes in wildfire-prone regions, it’s especially important that every component of the roof, including the vent system, is fire-resistant. That’s where this new product comes in.

A New Kind of Ridge Vent 

This all-metal ridge vent was developed by O’Hagin as a way to further strengthen homes against wildfire embers and radiant heat. We were selected as the first contractor to install it while it was in beta testing. 

Why us? We’ve built strong relationships with manufacturers like O’Hagin, and our reputation as a fire-hardened roofing expert made us a natural fit for this type of work.

How It Happened 

This partnership began in the most unexpected way. While attending an industry expo, one of our owners, Sean Kennedy, walked past O’Hagin’s booth and pointed out potential flaws in one of their vent designs. That conversation sparked a back-and-forth with their engineering team, ultimately leading to our involvement in testing and refining their next-generation ridge vent. 

From those early conversations to in-person meetings with O’Hagin’s president and engineers, we’ve been involved in this product's development from the ground up. 

“They brought over their beta samples and asked us for honest feedback,” Sean explains. “It was an honor to be part of the testing process and help shape a product we truly believe in.”
